WEEKLY TRAINING OPTIONS
Run Training Sessions

There are different run sessions available all year depending on the season.

 

Weekly 5km Fun Run/Walk - All year round

When: Wednesday 6:15pm – 7:15pm

Where: The Hangar Bar and Restaurant, Central Park Drive, Henderson

Bring: Running gear, 500ml Water Bottle, Jacket for warmup/down

Description: Come along and enjoy our longstanding fun run/walk event. A great way to stay in shape - to have a catch up with friends - or to thrash out 5kms, if you're keen on running further ask on the night as there are usually a few keen to go longer. This is a great social night and most people generally hang around for some food & drink afterwards.

Winter Run Sessions - Winter Only (See Training Calendar for dates)

When: Saturdays during winter 7:30am - 8:30am

Where: Servo Cafe, Te Atatu Peninsula, Auckland

Bring: Running gear, 500ml Water Bottle, Jacket for warmup/down. Some money if you wish to join us for a coffee and/or breakfast afterwards at Servos, Gloria Ave.

Description: Distance runs, 1 hour on an out and back course around Te Atatu Peninsula. Run at your pace for half the allotted time then turn around and run back. In theory, we all arrive back at the same time.

Swim Training Sessions

Monday, Tuesday & Thursday, West Wave Swim Fit Squad with Sue

When: Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays 6:00am - 7:00am, 7:00am - 8:00am and 1:00pm - 2:00pm

Where : West Wave Aquatic Centre, Sel Peacock Drive, Henderson

Description: West Wave Swim Fit Squads are now available Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. They are the perfect way to start your day or a great lunchtime activity. The Swim Fit Squad is ideal for those who want to improve their swimming technique and get fit or train for a specific event including Ironman, Ocean Swims and Triathlon.

Summer Beach Ocean Swims (See Training Calendar for dates)

When: Saturdays during summer 7:00am - 9:00am

Where: Mission Bay Beach, Auckland. Meet at the car park opposite the cinema.

Bring: Money for coffee at one of the cafes across the road from the beach afterwards.

Description: Beach swim along the buoys, distance can vary depending on group requirements, typically 30-90 minutes.

Weekly Details: Look at the Club Members Facebook Group for details of each weeks swim, particularly if there has been recent bad weather which may affect water quality.  We use SafeSwim.org.nz to check on water quality in advance of each swim.

Cycle Training Sessions

Shorter Sunday Ride

When: Sundays 8:00am - 10:00am

Where: The Trusts Arena Central Park Dr, Henderson. Meet in the car park northern end (furthest from the stadium). 

Bring: Bike, Helmet, Front and Rear Lights (be bright, be seen!), Puncture Repair Kit, Water Bottles, Jacket and Money for coffee stop.

Description: Sunday ride, 20-45km depending on group, for beginners to intermediate cyclists. Mainly on cycleways with some road. Aimed at improving your road biking skills, average speed 18-22kph. Out and back type course.

Longer Sunday Ride

When: Sundays 7:00am - 11:00am

Where: NorthWestern Cycleway, at the junction with Te Atatu Road (city side of the tunnel), Te Atatu Peninsula, Auckland

Bring: Bike, Helmet, Front and Rear Lights (be bright, be seen!), Puncture Repair Kit, Water Bottles, Jacket and Money for coffee stop.

Description: Sunday ride, 60-90km+km depending on group and upcoming events. For cyclists training for longer events such as Lake Taupo Challenge, K2, or Ironman.  On cycleways where possible, but also road. Aimed at improving your bunch biking skills, and longer endurance.  Average speed 26-30kph. Usually a loop course.

Are you looking for a social training environment or looking to break your personal best?

To make training enjoyable and a little bit easier as a club we focus on fun, motivated and friendly training. The only person you are competing against is you and your goals. Of course there is always friendly competition but we want to encourage people of all ages, fitness abilities and walks of life to get out there and get active. As a member of Waitakere Triathlon and Multisport we have a vast array of training options which occur weekly that you can take part in. Whether you want push the barriers each week or take it easy we are the club for you!

All of our training session have been designed in collaboration with our TriNZ accredited coaches. This means they are planned carefully and they are designed to get you in shape, with the events that our club supports as performance goals. Our sessions are based around duration rather than distance. meaning you can go at your own and still be on the same course as others most of the time.
