WTMC Swim Champion 2023/24

ROBIN EYRE

Club Swim Champion

Summer Swim Series at Kohi Beach, Weekly Thursday evening 6:15pm

Rob says "The Summer Swim Series is a great event to build your fitness over the season.  Start with the shorter distances and increase the distance as you gain confidence, or go for the same distance each week.  I did the 2000m race, but also some of the new "Splash'n'Dash" swimrun events which were a lot of fun (new max heart rates were set!)

Measuring your improvement is easy when your time might be slower, but so was other peoples but you finished closer to them than you normally do.

Thursday nights at Kohi makes my summer."

WTMC Ironman Champ 2023/24

SHAYNE CUNIS

Shayne says "Got into Ironman after my sister did IMNZ in 2017.  Trained with her and Susie Boyd Brown for 2018 IMNZ, and joined WTMC then.  Think most who saw me swim for the first time thought I was delusional.  Anyway the support of everyone was fantastic, and we still here.  Just to make it harder, am a Type 1 Diabetic, and since getting into Ironman, have had groin surgery for deep rooted saddle sores in 2019, knee surgery in 2021 (after missing a stair - not overuse) and then a month out from IMNZ 2023 - double heart bypass.  A year to the day later, I did IMNZ 2024, and have since done IM Australia and IM Italy this year.  Proof Anything is Possible."

Club Champ

DAVE MUSSON

Dave says "I got into triathlon in 2011 after using the Peoples Tri sprint triathlon at Mission Bay as a bit of cross training for the Rotorua marathon. I soon realised I enjoyed triathlon more than just running, and that was me, hooked.

After a fun-filled 7 years of racing pretty much everything, I took a break from tri in 2019 as we started our family. Two little girls and 4 years later it was time to get back into it. I used the Peoples Tri series last summer to keep myself accountable and motivated, and to ease back into the race scene. Those races have such a great feel to them and are a good mix of friendly and competitive. It was great being part of WTMC as I knew they were always there supporting each race.

This season I'm increasing my distance and testing myself at some bigger races. Lots of fun to come!"
